Divisions & Product Areas

The teams in our Tech & Product department are organised to correspond to the customer journey starting from the first contact with our online marketplace, through to the purchase and beyond. To ensure that both areas – end customer shopping experience and seller experience/purchase processing – can deliver the best possible results, they are split into what we call divisions: The Shopping Experience Division and the Selling & Supply Division. Both divisions contain several areas, and each area focusses on one step of the customer’s actions. Learn how these two divisions are built to accompany the customer journey.

Shopping Experience Division

The first division is Shopping Experience. What is the goal of the teams in this division? To meet the customer at the very start of their journey – the moment they search for a product, find information and inspiration and finally, the customer making the decision to put the product in their shopping cart, logging in and finalising the purchase.

In addition, the teams in the Shopping Experience Division also make note of the device a customer uses to start their search as well as their purchase. For example, the App area is specifically concerned with the customer and shopping experience in the Kaufland app.

The product areas of the Shopping Experience Division:

  1. Explore & Discover
  2. SEO
  3. Marketing Technologies
  4. Order & Buy
  5. App

Selling & Supply-Division

The Selling & Supply Division makes sure that our sellers can sell their products successfully. In addition, the teams from the different areas cover the technical side of the fulfilment and customer service areas, which means they are also responsible for shipping and providing assistance with customer enquiries.

The product areas of the Selling & Supply Division:

  1. Fulfilment Experience
  2. Pricing Excellence & Procurement Quality
  3. Selling Experience
  4. Product Data

A strong product needs a solid foundation:

Two of our areas are not specifically assigned to one of the divisions. Rather, they ensure that both of the divisions are able to work in a way that’s efficient, scalable and based on data:

Developer Experience & Platform

Our Developer Experience & Platform Area is responsible for the design, development and operation of the platforms used internally by other areas. We are constantly experiencing growth, both in our marketplaces and in our teams. The Developer Experience & Platform Area ensures that our systems and structures are scaled accordingly, in order to meet the ever-increasing demands. Our team is made up of colleagues from all over the world who bring experience in development as well as technical infrastructure and architecture for day-to-day operations. We focus on creating scalable, maintainable solutions based on industry best practices and cutting-edge technology. This helps us stay a step ahead of our competitors. Our strength lies in the way we tackle challenges which require cross-functional expertise and long-term thinking – we thrive in situations which require both precise engineering and creative solutions. This close integration between product development, software development and business experience means that the platforms we create help all our colleagues develop and operate their products faster, more easily and more reliably.

Data and Analytics

They collect and analyse data and develop models to optimise the performance of our marketplaces and quickly deliver meaningful insights. The Data & Analytics Area fosters a culture that encourages all employees to actively work with data. This not only helps improve their daily work, but also to develop the employees’ full potential by making informed decisions and implementing more effective initiatives, thus gaining a competitive advantage. Our company is becoming increasingly data-driven and business questions are becoming ever more specific. This requires a number of tools which help users create their own analyses and visualisations. These tools include BigQuery, Contentsquare, Google Analytics, Optimizely, Python, Tableau and many more.
