On the one hand, you will work on monitoring and observing the performance of our persistent data storage and work together with the teams to improve it. On the other hand, you will work as a hands-on software engineer who writes interfaces that help the product-teams access databases and interact with them.

Your tasks – this is what awaits you in detail

  • Proactively look for database performance issues and raise awareness for them or fix them yourself
  • Maintain proper database monitoring and create solutions to make the database use transparent for every team working on our systems
  • Provide mentoring, training, and coaching to the development teams to find the best solution for the products they are creating
  • Review, optimize and refactor the existing database schema
  • Work with development teams to optimize database transactions and the usage of standard and self-written ORM libraries
  • Projects you could work on:
    • Implement self-service interfaces for our product-teams to minimize operational workload for your team
    • Review database related changes from product-teams
    • Implement alerts and monitoring to prevent bad performance or a downtime on our database clusters
    • Reconfigure databases to fit the performance/security trade off suitable for a service

Your profile – this is what we expect from you

  • You are coming from a software engineering background and want to move to platform engineering or vice versa
  • You are highly interested in cloud-native and platform engineering
  • Object-Oriented Programming, ideally with PHP or Golang
  • Expert knowledge in non- and relational databases, ideally MySQL and MongoDB
  • An analytical mindset to diagnose queries and prevent performance problems
  • Self-motivated and self-managing, with strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in spoken and written English
