Your work in the Marketing Engineering & Controlling team

MEASURING THE PATH TO SUCCESS

The Marketing Engineering & Controlling Team is part of the online marketing department, but regularly takes a wider perspective, serving as an interface to Tech, Controlling and several other departments in Kaufland e-commerce. Let us introduce you to your future coworkers and give you a closer look into the way they work.

These are the goals you will pursue together with your new team

To make its goals tangible, the Marketing Engineering & Controlling Team focusses on several of our Company Principles:

We want to support our colleagues in other teams the best and fastest we can.

We get our information from robust data and provide it to other teams.

Our work helps the company achieve transparent evaluations and reporting.

Our work has a direct, positive influence on the company’s success.

Your new team provides Online Marketing, as well as other departments, with analyses, evaluations and visualisations of its findings, for example in Tableau. What’s more, the team helps to automate operating processes, which simplifies the day-to-day work of many of our colleagues.

As suggested by the name, the team is divided into two parts: Marketing Controlling and Marketing Engineering.

  • Marketing Controlling: This team is the interface between operational marketing and the Finance & Controlling Team. You’ll be agreeing on budget and spending plans and supporting the teams with data and domain knowledge when it creates reports.
  • Marketing Engineering: This team serves as the link between operational marketing and our Tech department.

What does Marketing Engineering & Controlling mean?

Marketing Engineering looks for systematic ways to use data and knowledge effectively when making marketing-based decisions. It launches processes and tools and automates workflows to ensure that operational marketing can be both data-driven and more compatible with numbers and KPIs. Marketing Controlling, meanwhile, measures our marketing success by creating relevant reports.

How your new team exchanges information

Especially with the team working remotely, it’s crucial to have scheduled meetings and opportunities to get together and talk. The Marketing Engineering & Controlling Team uses the following:

  • Weekly jour fixes within the team
  • A weekly (also sometimes used for brainstorming)
  • Topic-specific “productive meetings
  • Jour fixes with other teams (within and outside Marketing)
  • Budget checks several times a week, coordinated with Marketing and/or Controlling
  • Other agile meetings like dailies, retros, OKR updates (as needed, based on necessity and current project situation)

What makes your team tick?

For me, the best part is switching between spontaneous requests and large-scale projects. We have a huge range of tasks – everything from analyses to building dashboards to programming and data science. We get to be creative when working through these tasks and bring our own ideas into play. There are always new challenges waiting around the corner, and we are in constant contact with other teams.

Fun Fact:The team also tolerates coffee drinkers.

What’s the best thing about your work?

My job is a constantly varying mix of interesting analyses, automations and building dashboards. It’s fun and it’s a great feeling knowing that my work supports other teams getting their day-to-day work done more easily. Also, I like the flexibility of getting to choose my tasks based on which fit best with my own development and my interests.

Fun Fact: I am new here and have only just started my tea education.

What’s the most fun part of your job?

The huge range of professional development opportunities and having the chance to grow within one area of focus are what really stand out to me. Because our team works with so many others, we’re frequently in contact with lots of colleagues and learning new things from them. I think it’s great, too, that we have so much freedom in how we structure our work and can choose what we work on to match with our personal strengths.

Fun Fact: My tea knowledge is also still a work in progress.
