Our Controlling department supports our management with numbers-based direction and monitoring of the company. The Controlling teams help contribute to strategic decision-making with their precise analyses and reports, making them a vital support for our business.
The teams in the department
Controlling at Kaufland e-commerce is made up of three teams:
- Financial controlling: This team’s work deals mainly with collecting, evaluating, analysing and aggregating (reporting) on all the operative and strategic metrics, preparation of corporate planning as well as supporting with the preparation of monthly and annual statements.
- BI Controlling: This team runs a wide range of automated and technology-assisted data analyses for Controlling and other departments. To do so, the team summarises large amounts of data in user-friendly dashboards and presents it in a visually understandable way for other departments.
- Intercompany (IC) area: The IC area coordinates and carries out internal cost allocation within Kaufland e-commerce and with other companies in the Schwarz Group.

What day-to-day business looks like for Controlling
In their daily work, our employees in Controlling regularly prepare financial reports to support management decisions and monitor financial indicators to assess economic performance. They act as business partners for the specialist departments, provide financial analysis and advice, and prepare monthly and annual financial statements. Their tasks also include short- and long-term financial planning, budgeting and forecasting. They also analyse business cases to evaluate the profitability of new projects and investments.
In all their tasks, they work closely with various departments and are in constant communication with management to ensure financial efficiency and transparency throughout the company.
II find working in financial controlling particularly exciting because it requires close operational cooperation with the specialist departments while also giving me a comprehensive overview of the entire company’s development. My favourite part is the analytical component involved in evaluating financial data and preparing forecasts. The dynamic nature of financial controlling and the trust placed in employees by giving them responsibility for the financial development of various areas motivate me and contribute to my personal and professional development. How you will exchange information with your team
The teams are in constant contact to make sure that everyone is on the same page and they can complete their work efficiently. They use the following methods of communication:
- Dailies: The individual teams hold daily chats to talk about technical issues.
- Weeklies: Once a week, the entire department meets and coordinates with all stakeholders on an ad hoc basis as required.
- Retros: Regular retrospectives help teams to examine their current working methods and continuously improve work processes and results.
- Digital communication channels: Along with the planned meetings, the colleagues in these teams are also constantly making use of digital communication tools in order to react quickly to challenges.
