Like every year, our 12th e-Commerce Day took place in Cologne’s RheinEnergieSTADION. It was kicked off with the traditional Beach-BBQ and beach volleyball tournament the evening before the event started. Read more about our e-Commerce Day 2024 here.
100 exhibitors, 2,000 on-site participants and 34 talks on 3 stages: Things added up nicely for e-Commerce Day, organised by our team at Kaufland Global Marketplace. The event began the evening before 26th April 2024: The annual Beach-BBQ, including beach volleyball tournament, took place at the Playa in Cologne. Many guests braved the rainy weather to come by and had a ton of fun. Meanwhile, e-Commerce Day itself started the next morning at 9:00 when the gates of the RheinEnergieSTADION opened.
Not to be missed to kick off the day: The opening speech given by our CEO Gerald, where he discussed not only the current challenges e-commerce is facing, but also our exciting future prospects with new online marketplaces in Austria and Poland.
The day was peppered with wonderful conversations, captivating talks and eye-opening masterclasses; meanwhile, the evening ended with a legendary after-show party to the beats of DJ David Puentez.
VIPs up close and personal: Interviews with Matthias Sammer and Smudo
Of course there were VIPs waiting in the wings this year, too: In an interview with our CEO Gerald, Borussia Dortmund adviser and German football official Matthias Sammer revealed the origins of one of his guiding principles: “It’s all for naught if no one is leading the way.” In the interview, Matthias Sammer discussed the power of hierarchical leadership and let us in on the ways he lived out leadership in his previous positions.
This was followed by Fantastischen 4 member Smudo, who discussed in an interview with our CTO Fabi how the music world has been changed by AI and how this can be applied to other industries. This fascinating talk gave us many aha moments, not to mention the star power of seeing a true German music legend in the flesh.
387 KECse on location
Whether at our Kaufland Global Marketplace stand, at the entrance or in the coat check: Dozens and dozens of colleagues were there to help make the e-Commerce Day a success. They supported the presenters with microphones, water and other necessities, made sure visitors could enter the premises seamlessly and stood ready at info desks with advice and assistance.
But that’s not all: In our masterclasses, CIO Vicky and Information Security Team Lead Lia opened up about IT security for our marketplace sellers, while our Marketplace Management team offered a wealth of tips for starting and selling successfully on our online marketplace – to name just a couple of the many topics.
And we made a great impression on-stage, too: Our Data Science (Selling & Supply) Team Lead Anna explained how artificial intelligence can support sellers.
What was our colleagues’ reward for a job well done? Obviously, it was the chance to come to our fantastic after-show party. This was attended by even more KECs, who celebrated until the wee hours.
Tina is our Event Management Team Lead and was responsible for planning the e-Commerce Day.
I am very happy about our 12th e-Commerce Day once again being a huge success! More participants, satisfied exhibitors, exciting speakers, motivated colleagues and a wonderful mood – including at the beach BBQ the night before and at the after-show party afterwards: Who could ask for anything more?
