Our series “4 questions for…” brings you wide-ranging and often surprising insights into our daily work here at Kaufland e-commerce. This time, Diego talks about his passion for Engineering.
Hi Diego, How long have you been working for Kaufland e-commerce and how would you describe your position?
Since joining Kaufland e-commerce on April 12th, 2021, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to three distinct teams, each offering unique challenges and learning experiences. My journey began with the Accelerate Team, where I concentrated on platform engineering, focusing on the foundational aspects of our infrastructure. I then moved to the Task Force Team, dedicated to containerizing* the shop at its 100%, a pivotal project aimed at enhancing our shop deployment processes and system reliability. Currently, I am part of the Developer Journey Team, which serves as a bridge between the platform and our engineers. In this role, I am committed to improving the Developer Experience by creating and maintaining tools and solutions that not only enhance their ownership of projects but also contribute to productivity improvements across the board.
In each of these roles, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating and learning from exceptionally talented and skilled colleagues. This has reinforced my belief in continuous learning and self-reinvention through team dynamics. The strength of each team, rooted in a shared commitment to improvement and unity in action, has been a profound source of inspiration for me. It’s the collective drive and the alignment of our company principles within these teams that have underscored the importance of acting as cohesive units, enabling us to achieve remarkable milestones.
What do you like most about Engineering?
What I love the most about engineering is its inherent pursuit of simplicity within complexity, echoing Leonardo da Vinci’s belief that „simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.“ In the realm of engineering, this principle guides us to distill complex problems into elegant, straightforward solutions. Although complexity in engineering is inevitable due to the intricate nature of the problems we solve, it’s the drive towards simplicity that truly encapsulates the core mindset of an engineer. This process of unraveling the complex to reveal the simple not only demands creativity and ingenuity but also reflects the sophisticated essence of engineering itself. It’s this journey towards simplification, amidst the maze of complexity, that I find most rewarding and profoundly aligns with my passion for engineering.
What are the goals that you and your team want to achieve with your work?
Our primary goal is to continually enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our processes by providing an expanding suite of tools and solutions. We aim to achieve this through a strategic emphasis on automation and the development of self-service interfaces. By automating repetitive and time-consuming tasks, we not only streamline our operations but also empower our team members to focus on more strategic and creative aspects of their work. Similarly, by offering self-service interfaces, we enable a more intuitive and direct way for users to access the services and information they need, fostering a culture of independence and agility. Together, these approaches are pivotal in our pursuit of operational excellence and innovation.
What do you like about Kaufland e-commerce as an employer?
